First Activist to get elected Deference once elected

During the SNP leadership contest, Humza Yousaf wrote an open letter to all members of the party via party fanzine The National – In this letter he wrote “Now is the time to drive forward, with total commitment and conviction, our vision of the Scotland I know we can build with independence.

As your SNP leader, I will kickstart our activist-led Yes movement from the ground up so we can share our progressive vision of a fairer, more equal, and more prosperous Scotland.

And I’ll do that alongside you, on the doorsteps, as your first minister and your first activist”.

However, we have subsequently learned that according to a spokesperson for the SNP leader: “Mr. Yousaf has confirmed he will be attending the King’s coronation in his official capacity as First Minister of Scotland.” Everything said during the leadership contest is just bullshit, if Yousaf was serious about independence, and his alleged Republican bias, he would attend the AUOB Rally in Glasgow and send the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament to represent the Parliament, he would send a clear message to the British but

I get that the British Scottish non-Nationalist Party is a royalist party but the two just don’t go for me at all. Nicola Sturgeon the fallen signed off her letter to HER King with “Your Majesty’s humble and obedient servant” , every rational and honest member of the yes community knows how much of a servant she was, and obviously still is. She also had “With my humble duty” in her preamble, give me a f break. I also accept that Alex Salmond, Leader of the Alba Party, is no innocent when it comes to the unelected Royal Family of England, he describes Charles Windsor as his friend, and regularly stayed with Elizabeth Windsor when First Minister, I didn’t agree with that either.

As long as our political leaders act with deference to an unelected head of state, to a disgusting family whose only purpose in life is to maintain their wealth, their unelected and unaccountable power over our (lack of) democracy, and over us, while doing everything they can to maintain both the establishment and class system we will never move forward in creating a fairer Scotland let alone an independent one.

Humza Yousaf, like Nicola Sturgeon and Alex Salmond before him, is being sucked into the British game, into taking the British coin, into brainwashed deference that all helps to maintain our colonial status, that keeps us down in the most damaging way, by telling us we are not as deserving as them, as good as them, as equal as them.

It is disgusting and makes me sick to my stomach.

I agree. Our so called national politicians sound too much like Windsor arse kissers. Any one who defers to them are not our benefactors or friends. That includes our new minister, the Scottish Neoliberal, formally the SNP Party and Alex Salmond. We must not have any communication with them. Sturgeon is breaking her back in stooping over to shake hands with England’s new king in the image you posted Grumpy. Maybe she resigned due to back problems after that physical contortion. I wouldn’t even give him the respect of looking at him directly in the eyes.

    Everyone is too fucking nice.

I would treat the Windsors with no more or less respect than I treat anyone else, they are a stain from the past in what they stand for and anyone bowing down to them need their heads looked at it in every way. It is all designed to keep us in our place and down in my opinion, and that needs to end, and only then will we start to grow in confidence and start to believe in ourselves, right now too many live in fear and servitude, the British way and what the English did before the British became an organized thing. The Windsors as an institution can go do one.

Humza like Sturgeon must go we want independence not GRA ,federalism or any other of their colonial kow towing shit . We need this continuity quisling who has been put in place by the Murrells and the colonial masters to go. His mission is to ensure the SNP are no longer a vehicle for independence, exactly following the previous incumbents game plan . All the cabal, Sturgeons creatures need remove and booted out of the party . If the SNP do not have another immediate Leadership election taking into account all that has happened they are finnished. I think now they have been infuriated beyond redemption and like others now we will vote for other independence partys who genuinely want independence .

The change will come to the SNP if they want to survive but they will have to take a few more hits or die as a political force I suspect. The deference the politicians show to the Windsors makes me sick given they know what that institution stands for as much as anyone with a brain does.

Not a word I disagree with there. AS leads a republican party for what its worth. If they are mates they could meet for a beer or a cup of tea somewhere but going down to the coronation is bullshit.

    • GM

There are rumors that Alex Salmond is going to the coronation but I hope it is not true, Alba has a chance to grow a little just now, possibly within touching distance of being electable but going down the deference road will certainly see me think my membership that is for sure.

I think he is going as a member of the Privy Council. I can’t be doing with it and wish he wasn’t going but at least he’s honest about his respect for them. Sturgeon never was, she pretended to be more republican than she actually is. Charles is not Alex’s friend. They may be on friendly terms but that’s not the same thing.

        • Panda Paws

Alex has called Charles Windsor his friend on a few occasions and allegedly they enjoyed a wee dram but who knows. I don’t think Yousaf should attend personally but I so appreciate that in this case, he can’t win either way on this one. It is playing the British game though and that will not move us forward in any way as long as we keep playing by their rules and conventions. There has to come a point when we say enough is enough and we take a stand, yeah we should be respectful but we don’t have to play be their rules.
