The Walking Dead and the Apathetic.

The Walking Dead and the Apathetic – I found much to agree with in Joanna Cherry’s Comment Article but in many ways, I also found it a little depressing.

Joanna goes on to say

That sovereignty, our sovereignty, means that we as Scots have the right to self-determination. Like all other human rights, the right to self-determination is a universal right. It is most definitely not one from which the Scots are uniquely excluded, whatever the UK Supreme Court might have said in a case that I believe was misconceived and misguided.

The Union between England and Scotland is one of consent and so it is a union that can be ended by the will of the people of Scotland.

To quote Boyzone, “It’s only words” and that is where I find it all so depressing and where I come into my apathetic mode when it comes to the ongoing debate about Scotland. I even find it difficult to blog most days now due to the feeling of treading water in the midst of a storm and that is where The Walking Dead comes in. Look around you, look at the state of the United Kingdom, we can all see that it is dying before our very eyes in so many ways yet so many refuse to see it for what it is, some of us keep talking about it, myself included, but we seem to accept it with a whimper. That includes the politicians that we elected.

When I read Joanna’s article it reminded me of the Citizens Assembly, an idea I was actually excited about at the time even though to appease the unionists they were not allowed to discuss independence which kinda defeated the point in so many ways but it was what it was. The Report has a lot to agree with and a lot to like, it shows that the people can find common ground, can find agreement, I agree with many of the ideas in the report like

The Scotland we want to see should lead with integrity, honesty, humility, and transparency, in a self-sufficient and innovative way, and actively include the people of Scotland in decision-making.

The Citizens’ Assembly recommends that in order to make further use of citizens’ assemblies to gather allow citizens to make informed decisions in relation to people’s views and ideas on issues of national to Scotland leading with integrity, honesty, humility importance, e.g. to involve citizens in reviewing and transparency in self-sufficient and innovative existing legislation in key areas and suggesting the way the Scottish Government and Parliament should: which should be simplified or reviewed.

It was empowering for me as a Scottish citizen to see that the politicians were actually listening to us. They were being influenced by what we were saying, and not the other way around for a change! And I thought it was quite nice that you got to know them because they gave you some personal background. So you actually thought “Okay, this is what you’re about.

The really depressing thing, the betrayal, is that the SNP have not followed this up, that we have not heard more about this, they obviously didn’t listen, and that we have just accepted that the decline of the UK and Scotland is inevitable, and as depressing as it is, something we have no control over other than to talk because the politicians are failing us in every way and so many of the Walking Dead refuse to see and listen like the politicians.

The Alba Party meets this weekend in Inverness and hopefully, there will be some new energy found and some renewal I guess in many ways. I can’t attend the Conference but do hope to catch some of it online and I am optimistic given the SNP failed to have a spring conference or the so-called emergency conference, as is their way, but we need to see some direction or “Its Only Words’.

What I do believe though is we need elections, we need a UK General Election to hopefully get rid of the Tories, even if it just replaces them with the Red Tories (which I still doubt) we need these incompetent and thieving pricks gone, we also need a Holyrood Election for the same reason, maybe that is the start to plotting a way forward before apathy wins but God knows we need something.

The media is the real problem the real issues are never discussed in UK,Ok. Its seems the norm now for political parties to be infuriated by establishment spys who create a internal dictatorship from the inside and then get rid of those who are a threat. We have seen this with Sturgeon and her cabal and the persecution of Patriots and also Corbyns Labour where the left wing are purged by Stammer their stooge .Those who we never see and who loot our Colony for their benifit control the puppet game they will do everything to protect their tax havens and the status quo, of no real change. Without our resources they are nothing .The failure of Brexit is never discussed the blame shifts on to everything else Covid, Putin, the EU , Immigration. Only the politically educated know the route cause of the problem the Anglophone British establishment and fake Zombie Union .To defeated colonialism we must come to terms of what it is . Once Alba make the political breakthrough the Independence movement will come to life.

A lot of fair points regarding the media, and the capture of the parties by the right aided by politicians both cowards and more right than they ever admitted to but it does not explain the laziness and ignorance of far too many of the public out there. I don’t pretend to be any sort of expert, I don’t pretend to be politically astute but we have to make sure that we make an effort to find out what those scumbag politicians are allegedly doing in our name. I hope Alba makes a breakthrough but I don’t see it soon, I really hope I am wrong though. The big fear though is the growing apathy that I encounter daily now both at work and in my personal life and that is maybe the real threat right now, I also blame Sturgeon and the SNP for most of it as well. Words won’t do it, the politicians need to be out there but as we saw last week at AUOB no one from the leadership of the SNP showed up, that was a disgrace. I do think Alba are working hard, I watched some of the conference today online and it is refreshing to hear people who are actually fighting for independence and I really hope they can keep growing as we do need them.

Agree, sir. It is as if something was put in the water to make so many braindead – and it is across a wide range of topics, not just independence. Critical thinking has been all but wiped out in younger generations, and this can only be through school and other educational establishments not encouraging it. It’s a personal opinion, and others may think differently, but our state sector educational establishments should never have become student-led. You still get the odd heretic among the youth and older generations – and there are probably far more than will risk raising their heads above the parapet, but hive mind seems to proliferate at the moment across the board. It is quite chilling. As a young student, I used to wonder why so many Germans went along with the Nazis. Now I know: fear; lazy thinking or lack of any thinking; propaganda.

I think it is a bit of both, to be honest, I work in schools and many of the young people are just not interested in how we do politics. Young people are more single issue but I also accept that the curriculum doesn’t help and we don’t put enough emphasis on politics, especially local politics, it doesn’t explain the levels of ignorance out there though for myself which with the high levels of poor governance, piss poor right-wing racist media, corruption, etc all leads down the path of apathy that even I am finding hard to fight off now when it comes to blogging. I do blame Sturgeon and the SNP for much of that in Scotland, but the brainwashed thick as unionists in always running down Scotland and its people wear you down which is what the British do. I really hope Alba makes a breakthrough as we do need something and at least they are trying to move things in the right direction but I also suspect that it might take a while for Alba to get that breakthrough.
