Oh FFS – I have all but given up on the current version of the SNP but today I have just given up now I think. No doubt others will cover this story in far more detail and with more political acumen than myself but this is just a total piss take and a joke now. I appreciate this is just a resolution to the spring conference masquerading as a special conference and could be rejected but given the recent history of SNP so-called conferences, it will be the only resolution put forward. These are the parts that disgust me, to be honest
The SNP will make clear that it is asking people to vote SNP in that election to indicate that their answer to the question “Should Scotland be an independent country” is Yes – and that it will interpret votes for the SNP on that basis. (Only vote SNP).
Or you, if you behave yourself, can vote for an SNP sanctioned party, you cannot make this shit up anymore.
If a majority of those voting in the election vote SNP – or if the combined votes for the SNP and any other party with which it has reached a pro independence agreement in advance of the election constitute a majority of votes cast – we will consider that a mandate to enter negotiations with the UK government to secure independence.
I really am convinced now that the SNP are determined to destroy independence as a potential reality in my life time. What a total joke, they even want to link their preferred option to a standard manifesto when they say The SNP will set out – in advance of and during the election campaign – the inextricable link between that question and the issues that will be central to the election – the economy, public services and Scotland’s place in Europe and the world.
And if that doesn’t work well they will do the exact same thing again in 2026 at the next Holyrood election. Talk about super carrots and mandates, f me am I losing my mind at the stupidity of the Labour controlled SNP NEC, or it seems that way to me . Honestly, it’s enough to make a person give up on independence, the British plan all along, bribes to the elected and just ignore and wear down the dirty unwashed. The SNP are a f joke.
The intention is to fail even before the election has even started. Will the SNP be regarding as a genuine party for Independence at the next Holyrood election? The Alba Party and ISP should set out a solid case to take us to Independence and make the SNP look completely useless on the constitutional question. The only loser will be the SNP, Sturgeon took over the SNP and her only goal was to stay as FM lets see how long that last.
100%YES
It looks that way doesn’t it. They must also know that if a de facto referendum at a GE were to fail it is over pretty much and a Holyrood election just won’t mean much, even if the SNP were able to keep their vote share up, which I doubt. I feel like just completely ignoring them now, however as the party of government they do need to be held to account for their crap governance but fail in 24 they might drive enough people back to Labour they won’t be the party in government.

Reblogged this on Ramblings of a now 60+ Female.
We need Alba to stand against the SNP at the next election I would like to see ISP and Alba form an alliance on a desolve the Union ticket. 5 more years of the SNP rule will get us nowhere. It time to bit the bullet and push forward and ditch the sham independence party of Surgeons NuSNP.

I’ve said the same, Alba / ISP should find a way to work together. The hate by some for Alba won’t go away but there really needs to be a clear and visible alternative to the SNP now. They have been playing games long enough and it is time for people to see that and that there is an alternative on the political side of the debate.

I don’t even read any of their posts or pledges . The SNP bore me , they’ve no charisma , courage, or gumption . The SNP were the first party l was ever a member of because l thought they’d lead us to Independence. They seem to be pushing it further and further away with all their conditions attached to their pledges . They don’t embrace other Independence parties or the movement they cause division . Time they got a backbone and engage with everyone if they want to survive .

Sadly I don’t think there is any saving the SNP now to be honest. They are now an establishment party with equally poor governance when we know we know part of the key to independence is to demonstrate good governance. They have betrayed voters on that and independence, like you I don’t pay all that much attention to them now on indy and only really try to hold them to account on their record in Government when I can. I resigned from the party in 2015, and flirted with the Scottish Lib Dems as I consider myself a social liberal but I joined Alba as a founding member although not active due to the blog and wanting to write what I think without embarrassing Alba but they are our last hope I think now.

Alec Salmond is putting on the pressure now, calling for the SNP to crash the parliament and start a campaign for independence, on top of calling for legal advice on a positive route out of the Union. He is making Nicola Sturgeon look like a a snail-like has-been. I knew they would try the old ‘vote SNP 1 & 2’ variation. The only other party they would endorse would be the Greens and they are madder than a box of frogs, and independence is, if anything, even less of a priority for them than it is for the rump of the SNP.

I do think there wouldn’t even be a debate without Alba but Sturgeon won’t bend any further than her ego will allow, that probably is not that far. I am not so sure Alba is paying for top legal advice given how much that costs and the membership being below 10,000 I suspect but they have done well in such a short period and if they can get through the next couple of years look like they are here to stay. The SNP is an establishment party now with equally as poor governance as the yoons. I don’t pay all that much attention to what they say on indy all that much anymore but try to keep an eye on their record in government which is some of the poorest since devolution. The SNP are little better than the unionists for me given where we are.

Bruce, sadly there are still silly people out there who say we should all just wheest for Indy. More people should have been shouting long and hard years ago. These wheest for Indy folk are the real reason Indy will not be happening any time soon. Keep up the good work with your blog. I don’t envy your cold morning walks I have to say.

The SNP are the establishment now aren’t they with a record in Government as bad as any of the previous unionist attempts. They are more devolutionists now I suppose, gradualists at best, unionists at worst. I just don’t think I will see independence in my lifetime now to be honest but I will keep at it and thanks for the encouragement, the blog is just my opinion on the things that grab my attention, but it is flattering that people still read it and take the time to share their opinion which is good as it keeps folks chatting. I don’t always want to walk that early, I do it for both my blood pressure, and my mental health, but I am usually glad I have done my 4.5 miles in the morning once it’s done even though some days I am so not in the mood you wouldn’t believe lol.
