From incompetence to cruelty

So with Nickla welcoming John Paul Marks to the role of Permanent Secretary to the Scottish Government we have went from incompetence to abject cruelty in one fair swoop with this appointment. While the First Minister gets provided with a list where she gets to agree to this appointment she can also refuse or make different choices, as we know her choices in her time as First Minister have been poor to what might turn out to be criminal if Alex Salmond wins his Court case against Leslie Evans whenever that actually takes place.

John Paul Marks is allegedly one of the Civil Servants behind the cruel and horrific Universal Credit system of punishment in Scotland (def fits with the New SNP and Sturgeon) and Marks as director general, work and health services, who is in charge of the day-to-day running of Universal Credit and disability benefits was dammed in a report by the Byeline Times in 2019 Byeline Times found that Benefit error and fraud has reached record levels at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and it is going to get worse, according to its own figures released in its annual report for the last financial year. Have a read of the full article, it is a depressing read indeed but perfectly sums up the attitude behind most things in this country now when it comes to the poorest and most vulnerable of our citizens, but hey ho Sturgeon is looking forward to working with one of it’s architects, there is a surprise.  The most damning section of the report is on the Universal Credit benefit – the current and previous directors of which have just received bonus payments of up to £15,000 each for their work.

For his role in one of the cruelest and most expensive social security flops in a long history of them Paul Marks received a bonus of £15,000 on top of his salary of £130,000 with £83,000 into his pension, you can’t make this crap up can you anymore. The corruption of the UK, which Sturgeon now embraces with open arms, rubs our noses in shit every single day and especially those of us within the independence community. Some £1.4 billion of the errors are caused by civil servants making mistakes with claims. Marks should fit in well with the current Scottish Government who have shown a particular talent at wasting our money, the Salmond Enquiry costing millions, the shocking malicious persecution of the Glasgow Rangers Directors costing hundreds of millions, the Island Ferries debacle which has so far cost around 500 million. You know the unionists are correct, Scotland can’t afford to be independent, Sturgeon has made sure of that.

Some of the yes community have very quickly made their feelings known and it is not hard to not understand the anger at this kind of appointment. In his blog to his staff Marks wrote ” it’s ok to be proud of our vocation, I love being a Civil Servant , and I am proud of our Civil Service” . Lets not forget the words of Sir Jeremy Heywood when the Civil Service won awards for their part in lying to the Scottish people during the referendum when he said “This award is not just for the Treasury, it’s for all the hard work that was done by all government departments on the Scotland agenda. So as the English Government reinforce our colonial status with this appointment don’t forget Sturgeon agrees with them, and is in fact looking forward to it.

  1. Yes, she stumbles from one disaster to the other . How I wish she would just go and let us get on with it

I am in the same place, she has been a poor FM overall and is totally out of ideas now. We are suffering from poor policy and poor government now, they are tired and only have themselves to blame. When they should have been going full on for indy they sat on their hands and got fat at our expense, time for Sturgeon and her poor cabinet to go.

If you ignore all the details of this story, horrendous as they are, you’re left with something rather stark. Instead of Holyrood being the outpost of independence that we all imagine it is, the reality is that it, as an institution, is as tightly woven into the British system of government as tightly as all others.

A very fair comment and I suppose that was exactly what Labour intended when they set it up the way they did, all designed to not threaten the British establishment or it’s power.

Sickening isn’t it. The Scottish government sent back PIP to DWP despite it being devolved during the Smith Commission, leaving disabled Scots firmly in the clutches of the DWP. Pity we aren’t “amongst the most vulnerable and stigmatised groups in society” for whom all other government work seems to take back seat…

I think the current SNP Government have been poor for a long time now, they have run of ideas and talent, their policy and poor governance shows that now in all it’s glory but it is the poorest and most vulnerable who suffer as a result of their faiure.

Or “Meet my new mate JP”. That’s a bit cosy, especially … he is not even in post yet.

Then there is Nick MacPherson, former permanent secretary to the Treasury and arch-Unionist who admitted to anti-Indy bias within his department during the Scottish Referendum, now appointed as a member of the Scottish Government’s successor body to the Council of Economic Advisers.

In addition, Murray Foote, the ‘architect of The Vow’ and former editor of Unionist rag The Daily Record, is the SNP’s Head of Communications and Research in the Scottish Parliament.

Can people not see that the SNP/Scottish Government is willingly being infiltrated by stalwarts of the British state?

  6. Grateful thanks for making sure we’re aware of the crooked treachery perpetrated by Nicola Sturgeon and her many (it seems) unionist friends.

Thanks, I just blog about what interests me and I remembered the Universal Credit thing when I heard he had been appointed and just thought bloody hell how much worse can it get in Scotland under Sturgeon.

NS has carefully and deliberately steered the Scottish Ship of State back into the safe waters of Westminster’s overlordship. I am sure she will be well rewarded.
We must wrest the wheel from the hands of this FM and her enablers and we must do it before the Council elections in May 2022. There is no longer any other way.

    • Valerie

I agree, she has to go before it is too late. It’s bad enough her record as FM is very poor but the longer she stays independence is further away than ever, and more people end up in poverty and destitute at the hands of these Tory bastards.

Thanks for taking time to read the blog and comment.
