Something Different: Star Wars ‘ The Rise of Skywalker ‘

So the final part of the Skywalker saga has arrived, or a couple of weeks ago but I just got around to going to see it today.

I had been able to avoid the reviews and the comments by people who had seen the film so I was able to go in with an open mind, while not expecting all that much to be honest. The film included the final time that Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa) starred in a movie and handled her passing very well to finish off the story using unused scenes from previous films. This final film in the saga sees Rey, Poe, and Finn go up against the resurrected Palpatine and Kylo Ren. Billy D Williams returned as Lando Calrissian and does a decent job but doesn’t really add anything to the film other than tidy up some loose ends I suppose. The special effects were excellent as you would expect and the story not as bad as I as I feared although there is some cheese, some aspects that will have no doubt upset the Star Wars fanatics, and some things that were just plain stupid or didn’t make any sense.

JJ Abrams who directed the Force Awakens returned to direct this final film and does an ok job overall. The film was not really inspiring and suffers from average story telling by Abrams and too many characters, too many locations and came across as a little confused at times. The film has had mixed reviews from critics but pretty positive reviews from fans overall. For myself the film is ok, it ended the saga but I won’t say that it did in an exciting and satisfactory way, the previous two films just didn’t help at all but the film will make money and no doubt there will be some sort of Star Wars film in the future but who knows which direction that will go down or it might end up being prequels non stop.

Well now that I have seen the final film I will rank the eleven of them in order of preference.

Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back

Star Wars A New Hope

Star Wars The Return of the Jedi

Star Wars Revenge of the Sith

Star Wars Rogue One

Star Wars Attack of the Clones

Star Wars The Force Awakens

Star Wars Solo

Star Wars The Phantom Menace

Star wars The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars The Last Jedi
