Something Different: Joker

So my wife and myself went to see the Joker movie last night.

I wasn’t sure what it was going to be like and had deliberately avoided any reviews of the movie so I could make up my own mind. First things first Joaquin Phoenix was brilliant in the role and I don’t say that lightly at all, his performance is the best I have seen in a movie in a long time. I’ve never bothered about the Oscars thing and have not watched them since I was a kid but if anyone is deserving of one he is. His performance is both disturbing and engrossing.

I don’t want to spoil the movie if you haven’t seen it but this is a back story to the Joker that hasn’t been seen before and is very different from previous ones, I kind of took it that the Joker is more a symbol than a single person. The movie itself is a slow decent into madness and it really is disturbing and powerful to watch. I’m not going to say much more other than the film is excellent and well worth going to see.
