They’ve Made It

The Victoria Age ended in 1901 and many of us have agreed with commentators who have felt that the Tories are dragging us back to a new Victorian age, well ladies and gentlemen according to the New Statesman USA, they’ve achieved it.

At the start of the 19th Century, 30 per cent of British people were destitute, mostly because hard-working people were miserably paid.

Pat Thane writes that when carrying out research for a new book he was shocked to discover that the causes of poverty then are now very much back in 2018.

One of the main causes of poverty in the Victorian Age was low wages and no social security, today much of the cause of poverty is low wages and the erosion of social security. How proud the scumbag Tories must be.

Thane notes that the government argues that UC increases incentives to work, just as administrators of the 19th century Poor Law justified low, punitive benefits. Why is he surprised at this, poverty increased under Thatcher, poverty increases under Major, levelled off at 1979 levels under Blair and has increased considerably under Brown, Cameron and May, all Tories.

The disgusting Tories won’t be happy now until they get health and life expectancy down to Victorian levels also. Its not that long ago that we were warned that illnesses such as rickets were returning to the U.K., linked to poverty.

What don’t people get about Tories of all colours, they like poverty, they like people dying young, they like charities feeding the poor and churches looking after the sick, well that’s where we are and we better wake the f up before it’s too late.

It’s already to late, tens of thousands have died because the way the Tories and the Dwp have acted. Rents outstrip wages and benefits, private landlords won’t take anyone on Universal Credit. Social housing is scarce add to that food banks short on food and you have modern Britain. People won’t wake up until it hits them personally, which with a no deal or bad deal Brexit should be enough to finally end this bloody murderous union.

You have to hope that people will start to really see what the Tories do when in power, they are so brazen in their cruelty now that surely there comes a tipping point. Some think that UC rolling out in Glasgow and Liverpool will be that point but we should have been at the point ages ago, it does highlight how pointless Labour are now doesn’t it.

Ricky, I think it’s unfair to say that “people” won’t wake up until it affects them. I very aware of how badly treated many are. I’m a pensioner, and relatively ok, but it doesn’t make me blind.
I’m aware there are too many “I’m all right” arseholes out there, but I have a feeling that in Scotland things are stirring against this evil agenda.
We have a chance to shape our own future. It’s probably the last chance. Tell everybody, and keep fighting.

Its nuts isn’t it that people like Hugh Grant are marching, are taking to the streets, going on interviews to slate the Tories and their cruelty yet the people suffering the most are so afraid now they suffer in silence, what is this country coming to, it is really beyond me.

Nah, don’t beat yourself up, Bruce. We need all the Scottish voices we can get. But for now this is clearly a UK-wide disaster. It’s odd that your post and Kitty’s popped up in my reader together. Hopefully this bodes well for some kind of synergy happening. A critical mass building? And then … 🙂

Not angry at the writing thing, just write an angry blog now but yeah I really hope more people are starting to take note of what is going on in this country.
