The Supreme Court based in London have ruled that the Tory/Liberal Coalition Government broke the law when they brought in disgusting fees for people wrongly dismissed and wishing to fight their case at an Employment Tribunal, however the Daily Mail does not disappoint with their headline today.
These fees, brought in by the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, were always an attack on working people, predominantly poor working people. It was in many ways a back door 'at will' policy that they have in the USA where an employee could be hired and fired for no reason what so ever and have no recourse, especially if they were poor. The BBC reported that in the 3 years the fees have been in place there was a 79% reduction in tribunal cases. Like the cap on legal aid, this was just a policy, so typical of the Tories and Liberals, that resulted in justice if you can afford it and we are not all the same under the law. It was a disgusting policy and there is no way around that.
We even have Jo Swinson, Scottish Liberal Democrat MP, an employment minister when the £1200.00 fee was introduced now saying they were "terribly wrong", her hypocrisy knows no bounds. I can't believe she managed to win back a seat at Westminster, a Tory of the worse kind in any shape or form and obviously hard necked and thick skinned. We also have the outrage of people like Charlie Mullins, owner of Pimlico Plumbers and Conservative donor, saying that the scrapping of fees for employment tribunals was a “ridiculous, stupid, dangerous and irrational decision” and would lead to “malicious” claims from employees. , what else would you expect from the man who called Jeremy Corbyn a "twat" on Radio Four. He surely was talking about himself according to some when they heard his comment.
This is a small victory for the working man and woman in a country that has waged a virtual war on the trades union movement since Thatcher in the 80's and have done their best to remove many of the protections that people need in the workplace. We have all seen the stories about the Amazon warehouses, Sports Direct, the list is a long one if you just have a look. We still have low pay, zero hours contracts, so called living wage, rising retirement age etc. The Tories have always been hell bent on removing anything that aids the working class and many in the working class vote for them, wake up ffs.
No doubt the Tories will bring in something in the next term of parliament to try to bring this back, but for the moment a much needed victory for those who are treated as nothing more than slaves, for the time being you can fight back.
Right on Bruce.

About time us poor folks got a wee win, thanks to the unions who took it on.

Thank goodness for some common sense.
As for Swinson.
No words to say about her.
If she’s the next leader, they are finished. She is utterly devoid of principles.
I hope the voters get rid of her next time.
Unfortunately for me, I live in Swinson’s constituency where the voters dumped a good, committed, hard-working M.P. and re-elected this self-seeking chancer. Frankly, I can’t understand it. It seems to have been a case of voting for her because she was not S.N.P. Well, the idiots will pay the price as she’s no more than a Tory clone. Sadly, so will the many of us who detest her.
I hope you give her a hard time Andi. Make her work for all that money.

I feel for you, I saw a tweet once that said she was rarely in the constituency but spends most of her time in London as her husband is a Tory MP down there, we have allowed ourselves to be ruled by Prince and Princess MPs with no less sense of entitlement than the Windsor’s, when will this country wake up but a good result by the Union in winning this case.

I really cant stand her at all, she is everything I despise about politicians in one poisonous little Liberal. Things I have heard about her are not good also, some members of the Lib Dems I met said she was allegedly one of the movers behind shafting Kennedy with Clegg and Cable, what a nice bunch.

That’s interesting, Bruce. Do you mean when Kennedy was leader, and battling his addiction?
Because later on, when he lost his battle with drink, it was the SNP that got the blame for taking his seat.
Tris
Yes, when he was leader. There were stories in the guardian talking about the behind the scenes also.
